UJOA, EAMJA Council Members Meet CJ

December02, 2022: The UJOA Executive led by the Association's President, Hon. Justice Tadeo Asiimwe, together with newly elected EAMJA President, Hon. Justice John Eudes Keitirima, held a meeting with the Chief Justice, Hon. Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny - Dollo.

In his brief to the CJ, Justice Tadeo notified the Chief Justice of the East African Magistrates and Judges Association (EAMJA) Council resolution to hold the Annual EAMJA Conference 2023in Uganda in the month of November. “We needed your consideration on the proposal,” he said. 

He noted that this would help in advance planning and ensure that the programme is not left out in the national budgeting process for the next financial year which is ongoing. 

Similarly, Hon. Justice Keitirima said upon the approval the conference, the Chief Justice then would need to set dates, the organizing committee and suggest the theme. He also requested the CJ to invite the other Chief Justices across the region to participate in the meeting. 

The Chief Justice gave his full assurance of the successful realization of objectives of the Conference. "I give you my assurance we will hold it and it will be successful. I will write and inform the President in time," the CJ said. 

 Adding that he will formally communicate to the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to Judiciary, noting that the dates will be communicated later. 

The Chief Justice tasked the Executives of the regional umbrella body to propose ideas for a theme in line with topical issues pertinent to the administration of Justice in the region. 

Hon. Justice Keitirima handed over a gift to the Chief Justice which was a token from the Rwandan Chief Justice. He said the art piece was passed on during the recently concluded EAMJA Conference which took place in Kigali, Rwanda. 

He further reported that a delegation of 35 judicial officers attended the Kigali Conference which was technical and insightful to all the participants. 

Present at the meeting were EAMJA Council members; HW Janeva Natukunda and HW Okwong Stella Paculal. Others were from Uganda Judicial Officers Association including HW Kirya Martins (General Secretary) and Ms Lydia Banura (Executive Director).
